The Lost Route
This 1952 Lanarkshire route list is, not surprisingly, very similar to the 1953 listing that also appears on this site. However, as Alex Strachan points out, it has a little gem right at the end.
Fr Alex noticed in the Peebles timetable that the 2302 journey ex-Waterloo Street to Carluke had been extended, on Saturdays only, to Lanark. Nothing too remarkable there, as it was still that way in 1961. However in 1952, Central declared that this single journey, limited stop to Carluke and then stage carriage, via Braidwood, to Lanark, should be designated as Route 246. The 'lost route' had been uncovered!
