Special Features Focus on : Christmas!
In 2003, regular contributor Dougie MacDonald ran a Christmas Competition in which site visitors were asked to identify five locations associated with Central SMT. The winners were George Page of Dufftown, Moray and Malcolm Campbell of Holytown, Lanrkshire, each of whom received a signed copy of Dougie's book, Lanarkshire Buses.
The competition has long since closed, but you can still check the answers for yourself.
1 | | Location Number 1 is Old Kilpatrick Depot, also known as Gavinburn. |
2 | | This is the Ross St / Buchanan St turning circle which formed the terminus for Central SMT services to Coatbridge. |
3 | | In a typical 1970s scene, this Leyland Leopard is taking on a good load of passengers in Hamilton Road, Motherwell, just a few yards away from Motherwell Cross. Anyone going all the way to Uddingston would have been quicker crossing the street and catching a 56! |
4 | | Talking of which, this Fleetline is departing from Anderston Cross Bus Station, Glasgow, originally known as Blythswood Street Bus Station. |
5 | | And finally, we have the original Gartlea Bus Station, Airdrie, with a representative from each of the four SBG fleets that once provided regular services to the town. Broomfield Stadium is in the background. Everything represented by this picture has vanished. |
